Where the 787-8 was crippled with a string of delays and consequently knocked the stretched variant farther out too, thus far, the 787-9 has tracked a hell of a lot better than had been anticipated.

The airplane is already under its target weight and continues to fall. The 787-9 “sweet spot” continues to sweeten. And with fresh delays on the A350-900 emerging last week – customers like Qatar Airways are looking ever closer at the 787-9 entering service first and as a defacto A350-900 substitute.
