A380: Kill It & Be Done With It

As Airbus dithers over a move to keep or kill the A380, Emirates’ decision (thus far) not to conclude any new deal for more of the type further underscores its shift away from the ageing machine.

No one assumes that 777-9s will fill the A380s role at Emirates on a like-for-like basis, but the airline is rather more keen on frequency growth – particularly as it works towards its long awaited shift to Dubai World Central / Al-Maktoum International Airport.

With new cabin products that will be homogenous across 777-200LR, 777-300ER, 777-8, 777-9, 787-9 and 787-10, the A380 no longer fits the bill and its not hard to see why Emirates’ leadership no longer wants more of them [in their current guise].

Airbus has a new management team coming to the fore.

Just as the overhyped John Leahy “legacy” at Airbus has effectively ceased, new/incoming management now realises that the disastrous-selling calamity in the A380 should also be finally be put out of its abysmal misery.
