Boeing might be behind in sales versus the A321neo, but Airbus’ big single aisle has gone three months since initial certification without delivery.

The plagued Pratt & Whitney GTF engine will continue to embarass Airbus and the A321neo and its touted capabilities while the LEAP-1B’s flawless flight test program on the rival 737 MAX 8, coupled with added thrust growth provision will augur well for the planned launch of the 737-10X.

No one realistically expects the 737-10X to either be a big seller or overhaul the A321neo’s sales numbers.

But where the 737-10X will excel over the A321neo is in lower costs, lower fuel burn, trip costs, lower weight, added range and better dispatch reliability owed in large part to Boeing’s original decision to stick with CFM International and dodge the bullet of the tainted GTF engine.
