A380neo Dead. A350-1000 Battered By 777X. Where Next For Airbus’ Dithering Widebody Strategy?

  • A350-1000 Compromised Versus 777-9
  • Stretched A350 Compounds Performance Issues
  • Emirates Closes In On 787-9 &  787-10

Killing the A380neo may hurt Airbus in the long run as Emirates now looks poised to select the 787 family in 2017.

With Rolls-Royce equally snubbing the chance to power it, Airbus’ widebody strategy is in disarray. The A330-800neo is likely to be axed. The A330F is finished. The A350-800 paper airplane and has been dumped. The A350-1000 can’t cut it against the 777-9 while the mooted “A350 Stretch” lacks a viable engine solution as well as payload/range to match its Boeing rival.

And at the other end of the scale, the arrival of the 787-10 will undermine the economics and viability of the A350-900.
